“I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you.

I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.”

Jeremiah 29:11 ICB

Lord,

Today’s world seems more uncertain than ever

and yet I know my child is in Your hands.

As I think of the years ahead, I pray

for Your protection and blessing over him.

I know You have good plans for his life—

they may not be what I would have chosen

but I can trust You for what’s best.

This summer I ask that You would begin

revealing Yourself to him in a deeper  way

than he’s ever experienced before.

Help him to hear Your voice, hold Your hand,

and walk with You wherever You may lead.

I know as long as You are beside Him

the future is nothing to fear.

I look forward to seeing what You

have in store for my child’s life, and I pray

You will help me support and encourage him

every step of the way.

Amen.

New Life Ranch is about more than just a great experience for your child, it’s also an opportunity for God to work in his or her heart in life-changing ways. While you may not physically be here with your child, you can stay close by spiritually supporting him or her through prayer. To help you with this, we’re including a series of parents’ prayers on our blog this summer. A new prayer will be posted every Monday and each one will tie into this summer’s “change agent” theme. You’ll be able to access the other prayers in the series so we invite you to keep coming back. We want the work God begins in your child’s heart to continue long after he or she returns home. Thanks for joining us in asking God to make your child a “change agent” for His Kingdom this summer and for a lifetime.

People look at the outside of a person, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7 ICB

Lord,

You tell us that it’s not what people see on the outside

but what’s inside that truly matters to You.

We know character is the foundation of who we are

and it can only come from a relationship with You.

So I ask You would build the character of my child this summer.

Please teach her about kindness, love, grace, and patience.

Where there are weak spots, reveal and strengthen them.

Where she is already solid, make those places even firmer.

Send her godly friends to support her in following You.

If there are people in her life who tear her down,

please gently remove them and replace them with others.

Give her mentors who are further along in their faith

and wise teachers who will show her how to walk with You.

Please show me how I can develop character in her as well.

Thank You for being even more committed

to the character of my child than I could ever be

and for carrying on Your work in her life

until it is completed in heaven one day.

Amen.

I praise You because You made me in an amazing and wonderful way.

What You have done is wonderful. I know this very well.

Psalm 139:14 ICB

Lord,

The world tries to tell us who we are and how we should look.

And yet we know our true identity can only come from You.

I pray as my child is growing and changing

he would keep Your perspective on who he truly is.

May he not be influenced by messages that

seek to tear him down or tell him to be someone else.

Instead, may he live in the truth and have confidence

that comes from knowing he is Yours.

This summer as he experiences new things

I pray You will build him up from the inside.

Give him eyes that see the gifts You’ve placed within him.

Give him ears that can receive encouragement from others.

Give him a heart that is strong, courageous, and bold.

I pray for protection from peer pressure

and ask instead for You to use my child

to be a light to those around him.

Thank You for making my child in an amazing

and wonderful way that becomes

even more obvious with each year that goes by.

Amen.

Also pray for me. Pray that when I speak, God will give me words

so that I can tell the secret truth of the Good News without fear.

Ephesians 6:19 ICB

Lord,

In the middle of activities, busy schedules,

and all that is a part of our lives

it’s easy to forget there is so much more

to this life than what we see.

There are many who don’t know You

and there is no greater purpose

we can fulfill than bringing others

into Your Kingdom.

So I pray this summer my child’s heart

will be filled with a passion for sharing You.

Use her words, actions, and

every part of her life to point to You.

I pray she will be a witness

to the world of Your kindness,

love, and unending grace.

Give her boldness and opportunities

to spread Your love even in simple, childlike ways.

Thank You that You can use anyone

to tell the Good News

and I pray You will share who You are

with and through my child.

Amen.

When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it. But we should give special attention to those who are in the family of believers.
Galatians 6:10 ICB

Lord,

You created us for relationships and community.

Yet sometimes we can get so caught up

in our own lives and families

that we forget about the people around us.

So today I ask for a bigger perspective,

especially for my child this summer.

Give him a heart that cares about

our neighborhood, community,

nation, and even the world.

I pray he will see differences

not as reasons to walk away

but instead as reasons to offer

love and grace in the name of Christ.

You are raising up a new generation of leaders

and my child is a part of Your plan.

So I ask that even now You will

be teaching and training him

to make a difference in ways

that reach far beyond our family.

Amen.

You are young, but do not let anyone treat you as if you were not important.
Be an example to show the believers how they should live. Show them with your words, with the way you live, with your love, with your faith, and with your pure life.
1 Timothy 4:12 ICB

Lord,

Thank You that life is a wonderful gift.

Like anything of value, You expect us to

be good stewards and use it for Your Kingdom.

So I pray my child’s life will be used for You.

I ask that she will be a person of character

who has a heart full of compassion for others.

May she always reach up to You for strength

and reach out to those around her.

Even at her young age, please help her

to truly make a difference in the world.

As she is discovering the talents and skills

You’ve placed within her, please also

show her how she can utilize them

for You in powerful ways.

As a parent, open my eyes to see

who You have created her to be

and give me the wisdom to help her

bring You glory in all she becomes.

Amen.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; and, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27 NIV

Lord,

I thank You that my child’s heart is in Your hands.

Like a Potter with clay, You are shaping

him into all he is created to be.

I pray that as he spends time with You this summer

his heart will be open to what You are doing.

May he be teachable, receptive, and filled with Your love.

Help him to listen to Your voice and follow You faithfully.

If there is anything in my child’s heart that needs to change,

I pray You will gently and lovingly reveal it.

As his heart connects with the hearts of others this summer

I pray You will begin new, life-giving relationships

that provide encouragement and last for years to come.

Help me to always be a wise steward of the heart of my child.

And may every beat be like a sweet song of praise to You.

Amen.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. 1 John 3:16 NIV

Lord,

Thank You that You are our true Hope

because You gave Your life for us.

Throughout the summer,

and especially this week,

draw my child’s heart  to Yours.

Please speak to him/her

in amazing, life-changing ways.

If my child does not yet have

a personal relationship with You,

I pray that will begin very soon.

If my child does already know You,

I pray that relationship will grow.

The world today is uncertain

But no matter what happens

You will be there for our family.

We choose to make You our Hope

and place our trust in You.

Amen.
